  • Student Leadership

    Student Leadership

At Mee-Yah-Noh School our culture focuses on developing the leadership potential in all students. We are proud to be part of the Leader in Me process. The Leader in Me is based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People created by Dr. Stephen Covey, and has been specifically designed for a school setting. The Leader in Me helps to develop the essential leadership and life skills as well as characteristics that students need to succeed in the 21st century. All Mee-Yah-Noh School  staff have received training in The Leader in Me, and have begun its implementation, with staff and students learning about the 7 Habits and how to incorporate them into their daily lives. You can learn more about the Leader in Me at www.theleaderinme.org.

We encourage all students to apply for, and participate in our leadership positions at Mee-Yah-Noh.  Some of the leadership positions students are able to participate in are:

    Principal's Message

At Mee-Yah-Noh, we strive to create high quality learning experiences for our students. We believe that every child has unique gifts and talents and that these should be recognized and shared as a part of creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school community.

We know that significant learning happens when students have positive and healthy relationships with their teachers and school staff in addition to those they have with their parents/guardians. Our students are encouraged to do their best and to learn from their mistakes. This learning allows them to develop and enhance their ability to be respectful, and responsible, and to form healthy relationships.

Communication between home and school is also critical to the success of our students. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns you might have. In addition to phone calls and email, we use SchoolZone to share important information with our families.

Thank you for joining us at Mee-Yah-Noh!  We look forward to working alongside you and your child as they pursue their educational journey.

Mee-Yah-Noh is a great place to be!

Mee-Yah-Noh (phonetic spelling for Mîyonohk) means “a great place to be” or “in a good place” in Cree.

For the 2023 - 2024 school year, Mee-Yah-Noh School is full in planned classes from Kindergarten to Grade 6 in the regular program. A Kindergarten student who is a resident and lives in the school's attendance area may still register. We will only accept resident students in Grades 1 to 6 who have newly moved into the school’s attendance area for the regular program. A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.

If you are registering for Kindergarten or are new to Edmonton Public Schools, you must register online.

We program for students grades K-6, programing includes a regular classroom curriculum for Kindergarten to grade 6 we are also a district site for 2 Special Needs Programs; Community Learning Skills and Interactions.  Our full-day kindergarten is funded through the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation.  The Special Needs programs serve the needs of students with cognitive delays and students identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

At Mee-Yah-Noh school, everyone has the opportunity to be a lifelong learner and leader.  By fostering an environment of respect, positivity, and kindness we ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and heard.
